How To Make Unicorn Whipped Soap [3 Ingredients Only]

Without further ado, let’s look at what you will need to make unicorn soap yourself.

INGREDIENTS & SUPPLIES

Foaming bath butter (a.k.a whipped soap base)

Foaming bath butter is a gentle, foaming, soap-like product base designed for whipping. 

The formula is mild and won’t irritate the skin. It feels very creamy and creates beautiful foam. On top of this, it is rich in glycerin, which makes it moisturizing.

Colorant

To make the beautiful colors you will, of course, need some sort of colorant.

So what can you use to color whipped soap?

To color whipped soap, you can use either a soap dye or mica powder. Both options are skin safe and will produce beautiful colors. Mica powder will produce a more shimmery color. 

Scent

For the full “magical unicorn” vibe, you will need to add a scent to your unicorn soap. Depending on your preference, you can use fragrance oils or essential oils.

So how should a unicorn soap smell?

Well, there is no right or wrong answer. It’s all up to your imagination. But I did some research on what scents sellers use for the unicorn soap and it is pretty much always one of the following scents: fruit loops, cotton candy, fruit and vanilla scent. I went with the cotton candy fragrance oil. 

And here is a recipe for cotton candy essential oil blend:

3 drops of Grapefruit essential oil

2 drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil

1 drop of Vanilla essential oil

P.S. if you don’t want to use fragrance an essential oils, you can leave the soap unscented. Foaming bath butter has a gentle soap scent that can be left as is.

And that’s it. You will only need these 3 ingredients to make the whipped soap itself. 

 

Here are the supplies you will need to make the gorgeous multicolor pipped look:

– An electric hand mixer

– Piping bags (I recommend 14 inch ones, since you can fit in more soap)     

– Piping nozzles. You can use regular pipping nozzles, but the look won’t be the same. Pipped soaps and butters look best when pipped with large pipping nozzles such as these. I used the 1M one.

– A mixing bowl to whip soap in

– 4 smaller bowls or containers to mix different colors in

 

UNICORN WHIPPED SOAP RECIPE

» 14 oz / 400 g of foaming bath butter

» 1-3% of fragrance oil or essential oils, depending on your fragrance and liking. I used 1.5% (0.2 oz / 6g) of cotton candy fragrance oil

» soap dye (pink, purple, blue and yellow)

Take your electric hand mixer and start whipping the soap. You will get the fluffiest results if you whip for about 10 minutes. So for best results, set a timer on your phone and whip the soap for about 8 minutes. You will see the volume of the soap increasing like in my photo.

Take 4 smaller bowls and split your whipped soap into 4 equal amounts.

Add a little bit of color of your choice to the small bowl with soap and mix with spatula to incorporate the color. I always start with just 1 drop of color, mix, check the result and add more if needed. Different suppliers, batches, and even shades of color will produce different results. The only way to know how much color to add is to add little by little until you are happy with the final color. As an example, I needed 7 drops of blue color to achieve the shade I wanted, but only 3 drops of yellow.

Once you’re happy with the first color, repeat the process with the other 3.

P.S. You can change the look by having more than 4 colors or less than 4, or by making more of one color and less of the other. Your soap – your rules.

How long does whipped soap last ?

If made in a clean environment and stored properly, your DIY whipped soap should last for at least 12 months. To be sure, always check the expiry date of your foaming bath butter.

If you make a big batch of whipped soap, don’t keep it all in your bathroom. Store most of it in a cool, dry place and only store the jars you use in the bathroom.

How to use whipped soap?

Whipped soap is very versatile. You can use it as a hand soap or as a body wash. Simply scoop a dime-size amount into the palm of your hand, apply to your skin in a circular motion, then rinse. Whipped soap feels incredibly nice on the skin. It is fluffy, very soft and foams very well. You can also use it with a loofah or a sponge.

 

Yield: 600 ml (3 x 200 ml jars)

An incredibly soft and creamy DIY whipped soap with rainbow colors and fun cotton candy scent. This unicorn whipped soap looks gorgeous and is guaranteed to make you smile each time you use it. It is also a great project for a DIY gift. Despite the fancy look, this soap is super easy to make and requires only 3 ingredients and some pipping supplies.

Ingredients

• 14 oz / 400 g of foaming bath butter
• 1-3% of fragrance oil or essential oils, depending on your fragrance and liking. I used 1.5% (0.2 oz / 6g) of cotton candy fragrance oil
• soap dye (pink, purple, blue and yellow)

Instructions

1. Place your foaming bath butter into a large mixing bowl and start whipping with an electric hand mixer. 
2. Whip for about 8 minutes, then add fragrance or essential oils and whip for another 2 minutes.
3. Take 4 smaller bowls and split your whipped soap into 4 equal amounts.
4. Color the soap in each bowl with the soap dye and mix it in with a spatula.
5. Take one of the piping bags and cut it open to make a square sheet.
6. Layer your soap on the sheet in stripes, parallel to each other. Each stripe should be of a different color, as if you are making a rainbow.
7. Now gently bend the sheet with your soap in half to merge your soap together to create a tube. 
8. Tightly twist one end of the sheet to secure the soap. Keep the other end open.
9. Now take a new pipping bag and attach the nozzle of your choice.
10. Place the "soap tube" into a piping bag. Twist the end of the piping bag to make sure there is no air or free space left in the bag.
11. You are ready to start pipping. Start by squeezing some of the soap in the middle of the jar. Then pipe all around it and up. 
12. Enjoy your beautiful unicorn soap!
