Jump to recipeToday I will be showing you how to make a super easy, foaming lavender sugar scrub. The recipe requires only 4 ingredients and takes about 15 min to make. This DIY lavender sugar scrub feels like a luxury product but is pretty cheap to make.
The scrub is very creamy and feels very pleasant on the skin. This homemade body scrub does two things. It cleanses the skin like soap and exfoliates it at the same time. So you don’t need to use a shower gel. It’s a time saver!
Because it is a cleansing sugar scrub, it foams and washes off perfectly, leaving you squeaky clean and exfoliated. So if you dislike the oily feel that many DIY sugar scrubs leave, then this recipe is perfect for you.

How to use foaming sugar scrub
Begin your shower routine by running the shower for 5-10 minutes and letting the warm water soften the skin. Take a little bit of the body scrub, wet it and rub between the palms. Scrub will start foaming, which makes it very easy to apply all over your body. Concentrate more on the areas that need exfoliation.
Foaming sugar scrub recipe:
– 200 g of foaming bath butter
– 200 g of white sugar
– 1.5 g (approx. 30 drops) of lavender essential oil
– Purple mica (to get desired color, I added a pinch)
This recipe will fill make 400 g of product. I was able to fill out three 120g/4 oz jars and had some product left.
Let’s talk a bit more about the ingredients:
Foaming bath butter is a foaming, soap-like product base, designed for whipping. It can be used to make luxurious bath, shower and facial products such as whipped foaming bath butters, shaving soaps, frosting for bath bombs, body scrubs, soap frosting and much more.
The formula is mild and won’t irritate the skin. It feels very creamy and creates amazing foam. On top of that, it is rich in glycerin which makes it moisturizing.
Sugar is a great exfoliating ingredient. It is cheap, natural and you most likely have it in your cupboard. A gentle natural alternative would be to use pumice powder, like I did in this recipe.
Lavender essential oil – lavender oil is good choice for DIY scrubs. It is suitable for all skin types and is known to have calming, anti-inflammatory properties. On top of that, it smells amazing on its own.
You can modify this foaming sugar scrub recipe my choosing a different essential oil / fragrance oil and different mica color. For example, try bubblegum fragrance and pink mica for a fun, sweet smelling foaming scrub.

Hi Sue! It will be 7 oz of the foaming bath butter and 7 oz of white sugar. You can add more sugar, for example 9 oz, if you want more exfoliating action.
Can you sub Fragrance Oil for Essential Oils? If so, how many Tsp?
Did you ever find out how much? I was getting ready to make this but I was wondering how much fragrance
Looks like the recipe calls for 30 drops of oil. If you are using a single essential oil, you can usually sub out for the same amount. Some oils, such as peppermint, have a different dilution rate and you should use less of it to prevent skin irritation. For more about that, you can check out SimplyEarth.com. They offer a free course when you subscribe to the monthly recipe box. I am sure other reputable essential oil companies offer the information on how to safely use oils as well. Fragrance oil you should be able to use the same amount safely.
What is the shelf-life for these?

Do you have to add preservatives to foaming body scrubs since they may come in contact with water ?

Hi! Does this have an expiration?
Lovely post. I love scrubs and I would love to do this foaming scrub but unfortunately, I don’t have sugar foaming scrub and I am wondering if there is a substitute for that? Please advise. Thank you.
Hey how many days we can use it?, like any expiry date?
How many does this recipe make?
I really love this recipe! I did find that my foaming base was pretty plain soap scented and required to use double the essential oils. Amazing!
Another change that I find is required when using this soap base is the addition of oils. In this case I used evening primrose oil, vitamin e oil, sacha inchi seed oil, and rosehip seed oil. With these additions, it really makes an amazing face scrub/wash.
