Creamy Candy Cane Sugar Scrub Recipe For Christmas

I made the scrub with a gentle foaming bath butter that is pretty much a mild soap. Because of that, it has no greasiness associated with your usual oil and butter based DIY sugar scrubs.

Without further ado, let’s look at what you will need to make this vanilla peppermint sugar scrub yourself.

 

INGREDIENTS & SUPPLIES

Foaming bath butter (a.k.a whipped soap base)

Foaming bath butter is a gentle, foaming, soap-like product base designed for whipping. 

The formula is mild and won’t irritate the skin. It feels very creamy and creates beautiful foam. On top of this, it is rich in glycerin, which makes it moisturizing.

Sugar

You can use any white sugar for this recipe. I do, however, recommend, purchasing a fine grain sugar. Finer grain sugar feels more gentle and exfoliates better.

 

Colorant

To make the red color for your candy cane look, you will, of course, need some sort of colorant.

So what can you use to color sugar scrubs?

To color your homemade sugar scrubs, you can use either a soap dye or mica powder. Both options are skin safe and will produce beautiful colors. Mica powder will produce a more shimmery color. 

 

Scent

The scent we are going with for this Christmas Candy Cane sugar scrub is, of course, the Candy Cane scent. Candy Cane scent is pretty much peppermint mixed with vanilla, so you can either purchase these two scents and combine them or get a Candy Cane blend.

 

And that’s it. You will only need these 4 ingredients to make the whipped sugar scrub itself. 

 

Here are the supplies you will need to make the pipped look:

– An electric hand mixer

– Piping bags (I recommend 14 inch ones, since you can fit in more scrub)     

– Piping nozzles. You can use regular pipping nozzles, but the look won’t be the same. Pipped scrubs and butters look best when pipped with large pipping nozzles such as these. I used the 1M one.

– A large mixing bowl to whip bath butter in

– a smaller bowl for the red color

 

CANDY CANE SUGAR SCRUB RECIPE

» 9 oz / 250 g of foaming bath butter

» 21oz / 600 g of white sugar (preferably fine grain)

» 0.05 oz / 1.5 g of Candy Cane fragrance oil

» red soap dye or mica powder.

 

 

Take your electric hand mixer and start whipping the foaming bath butter. You will get the fluffiest results if you whip for about 10 minutes. So for best results, set a timer on your phone and whip it for about 8 minutes. You will see the volume of the soap increasing like in my photo.

Separate your sugar scrub into two parts: keep 4/5 of your scrub in a large bowl and place 1/5th to a smaller bowl. Add a couple of drops of red dye to the smaller bowl and mix. You can use red mica powder instead.

 

If needed, cut off the excess of the plastic sheet on one side. 

Now take a new pipping bag and attach the nozzle of your choice.

Start by squeezing some of the scrub in the middle of the jar. Then pipe all around it and up. Don’t worry if your pipping is not perfect. Mine isn’t either and the scrub still looks lovely.

FREE PRINTABLE CANDY CANE SUGAR SCRUB LABELS

This DIY sugar scrub makes a wonderful Christmas gift. To complete the look, I created some candy cane themed labels for you to print. The size of each label is about 2.6 inch / 67 mm, so it fits the standard 7 oz (200 ml) PET jars. If you are using a different jar, you can also stick the label to the body of the jar rather than the cap.

I print my labels on a regular adhesive paper sheet.

HOW LONG WILL THIS SUGAR SCRUB LAST ?

If made in a clean environment and stored properly, your DIY sugar scrub should last for at least 12 months. To be sure, always check the expiry date of your foaming bath butter.

If you make a big batch of scrub, don’t keep it all in your bathroom. Store most of it in a cool, dry place and only store the jars you use in the bathroom.

Ingredients

• 9 oz / 250 g of foaming bath butter
• 21 oz / 600 g of white sugar (preferably fine grain)
• 0.05 oz / 1.5 g of Candy Cane fragrance oil
• Red soap dye or mica powder

Instructions

1. Place your foaming bath butter into a large mixing bowl and start whipping with an electric hand mixer. 

2. Whip for about 8 minutes, then add fragrance oil and whip for another 2 minutes.

3. Add sugar and mix with spatula.

4. Separate your sugar scrub into two parts: keep 4/5 of your scrub in a large bowl and place 1/5th to a smaller bowl. Color the scrub in a smaller bowl with red soap dye or mica powder.

5. Take one of the piping bags and cut it open to make a square sheet.

6. Layer your scrub on the sheet in stripes, parallel to each other. Make red part thinner than the white one.

7. Now gently bend the sheet with your scrub in half to merge your soap together to create a tube. 

8. Now take a new pipping bag and attach the nozzle of your choice.

9. Place the "scrub tube" into a piping bag. Twist the end of the piping bag to make sure there is no air or free space left in the bag.

10. You are ready to start pipping. Start by squeezing some of the scrub in the middle of the jar. Then pipe all around it and up.
